Europe faces increasing water challenges due to climate change and ecosystem degradation. Strengthening water resilience should be a priority of the new European Parliament, Commission and Member States. Water resilience consists of the capacity of our socioecological systems to manage change - either by resisting, adapting, or transforming in response to it. It requires enhanced water governance, improved institutional frameworks, and the implementation of innovative practices and instruments.
In this context, and together with our sister projects RETOUCH Nexus and GOVAQUA, the WaterGovernance2027 synergy group released a joint Policy Brief "Water resilience is built with better water governance", highlighting innovatice practices and key messages, rising from the first findings of our three projects.
We launched this Policy Brief through a webinar on 13 June 2024, during which we looked at the central role of governance in building water resilience in the EU, with a a panel of leading experts involved in the three Horizon Europe projects.
